Saint John MP introducing a private members bill in the House of Commons to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.
Rodney Weston says it responds to concerns from Saint John area residents when three high profile offensders were released to a halfway house last year.
It will require communities are given notice of the possible release and also require Correctional Services hold public consultations that include community representatives and the police.
Weston says while it was drafted with Saint John in mind, it will apply to every community in the country that has a halfway house.
