Tuesday Morning Sports For October 6th

The NHL has suspended San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres for 41 games after an illegal check to the head of Anaheim’s Jakob Silfverberg. He also forfeits 400 thousand dollars in pay. Torres had been warned, fined or suspended 9 times before.

Montreal Canadiens forward Zack Kassian has entered a substance abuse program after a collision over the weekend. Kassian was not driving the vehicle when it went off a road and crashed into a tree. No charges will be laid but general manager Marc Bergevin says Kassian showed a “lack of character”.

In the NFL, Kam Chancellor knocked the ball free from Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson at the 1 yard line when it appeared the Detroit Lions were going to take the lead and Seattle hung on for a 13-10 win.

The one game American League wildcard will be played tonight with the Yankees hosting Houston. Masahiro Tanaka starting for New York against Dallas Keuchel for the Astros. Yankees pitcher C-C Sabathia is checking himself into an alcohol rehab center and will miss the postseason.
