NB SPCA Seeing Influx Of Calls During This Cold Snap

The number of reports made to the SPCA about cases of possible animal neglect and abuse rises as the temperature outside plummets.

That’s according to Executive Director of the New Brunswick SPCA Hilary Howes who tells us they’re very busy on days like today.

Howes tells us if you see an animal outside that’s visibly shaking without any protection you should report it to them. He says a doghouse is good enough to keep a dog warm only if it’s constructed to properly retain the animal’s heat which is something a lot of people don’t focus on.

He also points out that in order to combat the cold a dog needs to be properly fed because it burns off more energy this time of year. He tells us they’ve had an influx in the last week of malnourished dogs.

To report a case of possible abuse or neglect to the SPCA call their dispatch number 1-877-722-1522 which is a 24/7 bilingual service.
