Pets Are Vulnerable In Cold Weather

Bitter cold temps are difficult for humans and for pets.

Joan Richardson is the shelter manager for Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue on Bayside Drive.

She says for cats and dogs their paws and ears tend to get cold fast.

She says they see cats through the winter with frostbite where peices of their ears have broken off.

She says with dogs it depends on the breed as some have a thicker coat that might protect them a bit more but those with less fur should be wearing a coat.
