Nearly $800 thousand dollars in joint funding from the Feds and the Province for improvements to the sewer system in Grand Bay-Westfield.
Doug Hartford of Dillon Consulting says the existing lift station is from 1975 and it’s old and unreliable.
He says the gravity sewer system will permit the flow of wastewater without the use of electricity reducing the risk of overflow and distribution into the environment.
Hartford says they will be adding standby back up power generation so the major lift stations in the community can keep on operating during a power outage.
Mayor Grace Losier, MLA Ed Doherty and MP Karen Ludwig on hand for the announcement at the Brundage Point River Centre.
