Business At Port Is Booming

Container traffic through the port of Saint John has increased by 81 per cent over the past two years.

Saint John M-P Rodney Weston sees the port these days as being a major driver of the local economy with bigger and better things ahead.

He’s talking about the opportunities from a free trade agreement with Europe for seafood, forest products and agriculture.

The amount of cargo handled at the port rose by 14 per cent last year from 1.73 million metric tons in 2013 to 1.97 million metric tons last year.

Saint John is the largest port by tonnage in Eastern Canada.
