Apartment Building Fire On West Side Displaces Seven Tenants

Seven tenants have been displaced after a fire in a six-unit apartment building in west Saint John Tuesday morning.

Platoon Chief Kevin Comeau of the city fire department says the blaze originated in the kitchen area of one of the apartments at 263 Mansfield Place which needs to be totally gutted after sustaining heavy fire and smoke damage.

“Crews found flames coming out the back to the second story window, which was from the kitchen of that apartment. At the time, crews went in and evacuated the other apartments so everyone was out safely,” says Comeau.

“Power has been shut to the building. We’re hoping we can isolate the affected apartment and hopefully the tenants can return to the other apartments, hopefully soon.”

The tenant from the apartment where the fire originated did have minor smoke inhalation and was examined on site by Ambulance but didn’t need to go to the hospital.

We’re told that fire investigators are on scene trying to determine the cause.
