The first winter storm of 2018 is on its way to New Brunswick.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning about this storm which it is calling major and with snowfall estimates of 20 to 40 centimetres of snow for most of the province and wind gusts of nearly 90 kilometres an hour along coastal areas.
It’s expected that snow will develop in New Brunswick around noon on Thursday.
“The exact track really will dictate how much snow the Saint John area receives,”says Environment Canada meteorologist Linda Libby.
“So if it keeps the temperatures just below freezing we’re looking at more snow, closer to or above freezing we’re looking at wetter, heavier snow possibly mixed with rain and then we’re looking at lower accumulations.”
She is predicting about eight to 12 hours of very bad weather conditions.
Meantime, Accuweather says there is the potential for a foot or more of snow to fall in Maine and New Brunswick, which is expected to get the brunt of the precipitation from this blizzard and a risk of hurricane-force winds and frigid air is also forecasted.
The Weather Network says that New Brunswick is set for the hit the hardest with preliminary snowfall totals expected in the 20-40 centimetre range and blizzard conditions for most of the province.
