Banning Sale Of Junk Food In Schools Can Impact Student Weight, UNB Researcher Finds

UNB researcher Dr. Philip Leonard has discovered students who are in schools where there is a ban on the sale of junk food don’t weigh as much as students in schools where there is no such ban.

According to the research, students who have not been able to buy junk food while in school for five or more years are, on average, two pounds lighter than those students who have not faced such a ban.

According to stats dating back to 2009 and 2010 it was estimated almost a quarter of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 in New Brunswick were overweight or obese.
