Be Careful About Your Food With Loss Of Electricity

If your power got knocked out or your home flooded by the post-tropical storm you may need to toss out some of your groceries. That message coming from the province which is promoting food safety in the aftermath of Arthur.

If you don’t have electricity, don’t open your fridge or freezer unless you have to as a freezer even without any electricity can keep food frozen up to 36 hours. Food kept in a fridge without electricity for more than 24 hours should be thrown away.

Any perishable food that’s come into contact with flood waters should be thrown out, as should home preserves, meats, fish and dairy products. Vacuum packed food should also be discarded.

Canned food without leaks, swelling or rusting should be washed and dried.
