Burning Down A House On Purpose

Firefighters are usually trying to put the fire out not start it.

The tables will be turned in Grand Bay-Westfield on Saturday when the town’s volunteer fire rescue department takes part in the full day live fire exercise.
It runs from 8am until 5pm at 57 Woolastook Drive–a property that was offered to the department for training.

Fire Chief Troy Gautreau agrees to some it will look like a real fire.
He says that is why they let as many people as possible know in advance with a media advisory, a mass mailout in the town and they also informed the 911 communications centre know in case they get a call.

Over 30 firefighters are taking part in the exercise. Late in the day, the home will be burned to the ground.
The area near the exercise on Woolastook Drive will be cordoned off.

This kind of exercise has not occurred in Grand Bay-Westfield in 25 years and Gautreau doesn’t expect it will again for another 25 years.
