Cardy Thinks NB Needs First Contract Legislation

Provincial NDP Leader Dominic Cardy thinks first contract legislation may have prevented the current labour dispute at the Covered Bridge Potato Chip company near Hartland.

Cardy tells us this kind of legislation is the norm out west.

He says when the majority of workers decide that they want to start a union then the management has to sit down and negotiate the first contract with them otherwise he says there isn`t any point in ever having trade unions.

Cardy says it makes things much clearer for both sides..for the management and the workers.

In a news release, Cardy also points out that between Liberal and Conservative governments, this company has received $328,000 in corporate handouts.
