Charges laid after report of shots fired in Saint John

Three of four people taken into custody following a report of shots fired in west Saint John are now facing charges.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired inside a building on Duke Street West around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police shut down the street between Ludlow Street and Market Place and told people to stay inside.

On Wednesday, police said officers searched the property and seized a shotgun along with “additional evidence.”

A 32-year-old man appeared in court Wednesday and was charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, possession fo a firearm while prohibited, careless use of a firearm, and unsafe storage of a firearm.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday for a bail hearing.

A 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were arrested for weapons offences and released on undertakings to return to court in July. A 64-year-old man was released without charges, said police.
