City Funding For Three Organizations Now Up In The Air

The decision by Saint John council at its last meeting before the new year to move the alloted funding for the Human Development Council and two other groups to the grants committee envelope means there’s no guarantee the HDC will be getting the $50,000 that had been set aside.

Executive Director Randy Hatfield says that presents an immediate hardship as their fiscal year starts on the first of January.

Hatfield says he’s thankful the city has decided to fasttrack consideration of the community grant, which means the HDC should know how much money the city is contributing by February.

He says the HDC has a good strong case to make in terms of the amount of funding it recieves.

Hatfield says it’s a constant challenge to the non-profit sector to sustain operations.
