Saint John has issued a warning to west side residents about door-to-door salespeople making “false claims” about water safety.
Residents have told the city that salespeople are visiting their homes and claiming their water may be hazardous to their health.
“These salespeople represent a private company aiming to sell water softeners and other products,” the city said in a news release on Monday.
“Water from the South Bay Wellfield is safe to consume.”

It says the decision to buy a water softener is a “personal choice” and residents wanting to install one should do their homework on the company beforehand.
