The importance of urban green spaces has been recognized by Canadian urban planners for years–but what about brown spaces?
Saint John Common Shirley McAlary is speaking up in support of a new policy that would eradicate a blight on urban centres–.the so-called brown spaces, otherwise known as vacant lots that aren’t being used for parking or anything else.
The suggestion is that if a building is torn down or fire damaged, the property owner should have a responsibilty to grass over the lot within a certain timeframe–a law that’s already in place in several municipalities.
