Closing Arguments Given At Second Degree Murder Trial Of Fred Cormier Junior

The jury hearing closing arguments in the second degree murder trial of Fred Cormier Junior who is charged in the stabbing death of 23-year-old Spencer Eldridge on Lancaster Street back in May of last year.

The prosecution asking the jury to think about the choices Cormier made over the course of the day of the incident, saying that he chose to arm himself with a buck knife, chose to open the door and confront Eldridge, and chose to stab him. The prosecution adding that no witnesses mention a struggle or anyone entering the residence.

The defense, meantime, is putting forth that is a case of self defense, pointing to the fact that Cormier was getting text messages from Eldrige throughout the day containing threats and also sought out Cormier three times. The defense also disputing the idea that it was Cormier that should have backed off, saying that duty should have been to Eldridge.

The incident happened at the home of Cormier’s father, Fred Cormier Senior, who was run over twice by a car that same night after swinging a steel pipe to try and chase the two men away.

The case has been adjourned until this afternoon.
