Cost Of New Public Safety Radio System Escalates

Concern is being expressed over the escalating expense of a new public safety communications radio system in Saint Joh for police and the fire department.

Common Councillor David Merrithew, who chairs the city’s Finance Committee, says the estimated cost has ballooned to more $5 million.

It’s being proposed Common Council spend $2.8 million next year on it. City Manager Jeff Trail describes the state of what’s in place now as being tenuous.

Trail says the city will investigate whether the cost can somehow be trimmed.
