A small gesture can touch the hearts of many, as one local waitress found out in St. Stephen.
Suzie Hossack says Davie McLaughlin came to Carmen’s Diner with tears in his eyes today, after someone threw an ashtray into his bookbag, and all of his markers and drawings were burned.
Davie is intellectually disabled, wears hearing aids, and can often be seen colouring in various areas of St. Stephen.
Hossack says Davie told her everything was gone, including some markers and crayons her mother had given him a few weeks ago. She said she then got a co-worker to take their picture, and she put a post on Facebook asking for a few donations… and it spread like wildfire.
“Within half an hour, people started showing up with gift cards and bags. There’s five bags here now, and he took two bags home with him.”
Hossack says she even recieved a phone call at the diner from someone in Fort McMurray who wanted to donate and was looking for details.
She says Davie will now be able to colour in his sketchpads for a very long time.
