Quispamsis town council will be talking about the proposed 2018 budget tonight with a proposed one cent increase in the tax rate to $1.29.
It has been described as a hold the line budget with the tax base shrinking for the first time ever but Councillor Emil Olsen would like to see more money spent on roads. He would like to see work on Quispamsis Road to Cambridge finished at a cost of $700,000 but it’s not on the proposed list.
Councillor Pierre Rioux would like funding halted for the Comex commuter bus service. Instead, there’s a proposed increase of $7800. The town’s Transportation Committee might review that service in the early part of next year to determine whether it should still be funded considering the ridership.
The budget does contain an increase for Enterprise Saint John to $112,00. Funding was cut in half this year. There’s a $23,000 decrease in funding for the Regional Facilities Commission.
