‘Presumptive’ Case Of Coronavirus Confirmed In Ontario

Ontario’s top doctor confirms the province’s “presumptive” first case of the Wuhan coronavirus.

The Chief Medical Office of Health, Dr. David Williams is reporting a patient was admitted to the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.

It was a patient with “a fever and respiratory symptoms.” The person also had a “recent travel history to Wuhan, China” and has been put into isolation.

“All appropriate infection prevention and control measures were followed by both paramedics and the hospital,” said Dr. Williams.

A specimen test was sent to the Public Health Ontario Laboratory and was confirmed on Saturday a “presumptive positive test.”

Wuhan has been the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak. So far, 56 people have died.
