EMO Encourages New Brunswickers To Always Have A 72 Hour Emergency Kit On Hand

It has been a trying week for many residents across the province after an ice storm left many relying on others for hot showers and a place to charge cell phones, and other electronics.

Thousands are still without electricity today, but the number has dropped significantly from the 135,000 who were without heat and lights earlier this week.

Now that life is beginning to get back to normal for many, are there things residents can do to prepare themselves if this ever happens again?

Spokesperson for the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization Paul Bradley says one thing you should have is a 72 hour emergency preparedness kit.

It should include food, water, batteries, a battery power radio, and first aid supplies.

Bradley says it should also include anything you may deem to be important personally.

For example: prescriptions and infant formula.

Some people invest in generators to keep on hand in case the power goes out, but it should be safety first.

Do not run generators in your home, or in the garage.

Two people in the Acadian Peninsula have died and two others were hospitalized after suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
