Energy East Pipeline Faces New Obstacle

There could be another complication for the proposed Energy East pipeline in the form of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People which has been accepted by The Trudeau Government.

The Grand Chief of the Wolastoq Grand Council Ronald Tremblay says that effectively gives the First Nations veto power over the pipeline.

Tremblay says the Grand Council remains opposed to the project. He says the Grand Council believes it will pose a risk down the road to water on native land.

Tremblay says if the pipeline route is changed, it will then have to go through Mi-kmaq land which is problematic.
