Escaped County Jail Inmate Back In Custody

Police say an inmate who escaped from the Saint John jail last week is back in custody.

Saint John police said late Tuesday that Terrance Smith, 46, was taken back into custody.

Smith allegedly escaped from a temporary housing unit at the correctional facility on Old Black River Road around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Corrections staff noticed he was missing on Friday morning and contacted the police.

Smith is serving a sentence for several charges including assaulting a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
