Aquatint Etching

A one-day workshop where participants will learn the steps to produce a 5” x 7” copper plate aquatint etching. Aquatint is an etching process that produces tonal areas rather than just lines by exposing areas of the plate to acid for different amounts of time. This hands-on workshop will teach students how to: prepare an etching plate (beveling, degreasing, adhering a backing), transfer an image onto the plate, use stop-out, etch the plate in acid in different stages, ink the plate and print using the press.

Supplies fee: Participants are asked to bring a simple, traceable 5 x 7” image they want to work with. This can be a drawing or a photo. All of the other necessary tools and supplies are provided.
