Councillor at Large Shirley McAlary wants to find out the nitty gritty about the tax concession that was granted back in 2005 by Common Council to Canaport L-N-G. She points out most of the councillors are in the dark and a lot of money could be at stake for the city.
McAlary notes the tax assessment is something like 4.8 million dollars but the city is only receiving 500 thousand dollars a year at a time when the city is scrounging for every dollar it can find. She will be pressing her case at tonight’s meeting of Council.
McAlary was not a member of Common Council when the tax concession was granted but remembers the uproar at the time, adding people, in her view, were rightly angry.
City Manager Pat Woods was earlier asked to look at the issue and report back to Council.
