Friday Morning Sports For August 22nd

In the Majors, the Yankees moving into a second place tie in the American League East with the Jays after blanking Houston 3-0 behind Brandon McCarthy who pitched a four hitter……The Los Angeles Angels shut out the Red Sox 2-0, behind Matt Shoemaker who allowed just one hit, to complete the four game sweep. The Angels will have to make do without starter Garrett Richards who’s on the shelf for 6 to 9 months with a knee injury.

In the National League, the Washington Nationals extending their winning streak to 10 after a 1-0 walkoff win over Arizona with the winning run being scored in the bottom of the 9th on a throwing error.

In the River Valley Oldtimers League, the best of three quarter final is underway with the Desaulnier Surveys over the Browns Flat Alpines 5-3.

Tim Leiweke, the C-E-O of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, owner of the Leafs and the NBA’s Toronto Raptors will step down next year.

Former Saint John Flame goaltender Jean-Sebastian Giguere is retiring after 16 seasons in the NHL.
