Lots of action in the NHL with Toronto being shut out by Minnesota 2-0…..Tomas Plekanec scored at 1:52 of overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 2-1 win over New Jersey……Washington over Boston 5-3. Patrice Bergeron scored his 265th career goal to move past Bobby Orr on the Bruins all-time list…..It was Vegas over Pittsburgh 2-1……Former Penguin Marc-Andre Fleury was in goal for Vegas and another former Penguin, James Neal scored a goal, his 15th of the season…..In other play, it was Chicago 5 Winnipeg 1. The Blackhawks have now won 4 in a row……Tampa Bay won its 6th straight, 4-1 over Arizona and sports the best record in the league……Philadelphia 2 Buffalo 1. The Flyers have won 5 in a row…..Columbus 6 NY Islanders 4…..Anaheim 3 St. Louis 1…..Nashville 4 Edmonton 0…..San Jose 3 Calgary 2 and Colorado 2 Florida 1.

The Saint John Sea Dogs will not be submitting a bid to host the 2019 Memorial Cup at Harbour Station because they want to be able to ice a competitive team in that tournament and they’re still in the process of rebuilding.

The Sea Dogs have traded forward prospect Max-Antoine Melancon to the Shawinigan Cataractes in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2019 “Q” League Entry Draft.
Melancon, who’s 16, has ten goals and 18 points in 19 games in his second season with the Magog Cantonniers of the Quebec Midget “AAA” Hockey League.

In the NFL, Denver rallied from 10 points down for a 25-13 win over Indianapolis.

In High School Basketball at the Rick Cotter Classic……In boys play, Rothesay-Netherwood over Leo Hayes 98-71 and Fredericton High beat Kennebecasis Valley High 84-56…..In girls play, it was Riverview over K-V-H-S 50-43.

In the NBA, LeBron James recorded his 59th career triple-double as the Cleveland Cavaliers won for the 16th time in their last 17 games, 121-112 over the Los Angeles Lakers…..Elsewhere, it was New York 111 Brooklyn 104…..Detroit 105 Atlanta 91…..Minnesota 119 Sacramento 96 and Golden State 112 Dallas 97.

The St. Louis Cardinals traded right fielder Stephen Piscotty to the Oakland A’s where he’ll be closer to his mother who has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Cards get two minor leaguers in exchange. For St. Louis, the trade clears space for new outfielder Marcell Ozuna, just acquired from Miami.
