Friday Morning Sports For September 15th

The Saint John Alpines scored 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning to beat the Fredericton Royals 11-3 in the NB Senior Baseball League semifinal. Scott May hit a key single and Ryan Van Snick laid down a suicide squeeze bunt for the Alpines in the 7th. Winning pitcher Jack Shannon gave up only 2 hits and struck out 12. Fredericton still leads the best of seven series 3 games to 2 with game 6 tonight at Memorial Field with a 7:30 start.

In the Majors, Jay Bruce hit an R-B-I double in the 10th inning after Francisco Lindor tied it with a clutch double in the ninth as the Cleveland Indians rallied for their 22nd win in a row, 3-2 over Kansas City…..Boston beat Oakland 6-2 as Drew Pomeranz allowed just one run over 6 innings and Andrew Benintendi had three hits, driving in three runs for the Red Sox….The New York Yankees kept pace with a 13-5 win over Baltimore as Aaron Judge hit a pair of three run homers. In other play, it was Minnesota 3 Toronto 2 (10 innings)…..Chicago White Sox 17 Detroit 7…..St. Louis 5 Cincinnati 2…..Arizona 7 Colorado 0….Wasungton 5 Atlanta 2…..Philadelphia 10 Miami 0…..Seattle 10 Texas 4…..Chicago Cubs 14 NY Mets 6 and Houston 5 Los Angeles Angels 2.

The Boston Red Sox have reinstated pitcher David Price from the disabled list and announced he’ll be used as a reliever for the rest of the season. Price hasn’t pitched in a game since July 22nd because of an elbow problem.

In the NFL, Deshaun Watson ran 49 yards for a touchdown in his first start and the Houston Texans converted a late field goal for a 13-9 win over Cincinnati.

In pre-season hockey, it was Moncton over the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-2 at the Aitken Centre in Fredericton…….Sea Dogs Goaltender Alex D’Orio has signed a three year, entry level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In Boys Junior Varsity soccer, it was Harbour View High over Saint Malachys 2-1.

The U-N-B Saint John Seawolves Football Game will be shown on Bell TV1 tomorrow night at 7:00.
