Friday Morning Sports For September 8th

The NFL regular season opened up with the Kansas City Chiefs dismantling the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium 42-27…….Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith completed 28 of 35 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns without throwing an interception.

The New York Yankees honored the late Gene Michael by wearing black arm bands and then hit four homers in a 9-1 win over Baltimore. Micheal, who was nicknamed ‘Stick” because of his slender frame, is given credit for building up the Yankees under manager Joe Torre who were dominant in the late 90’s….Cleveland won its 15th in a row, behind Corey Kluber who struck out 13 White Sox over 7 innings, in an 11-2 win. Former Blue Jay Edwin Encarnacion had a three run homer……The Los Angeles Dodgers have now lost 7 in a row and 12 of their last 13 after a 9-1 loss to Colorado as starter Clayton Kershaw struggled. In other play, it was the Chicago Cubs 8 Pittsburgh 2….Washington 4 Philadelphia 3…..NY Mets 7 Cincinnati 2…..Atlanta 6 Miami 5…..Minnesota 4 Kansas City 2 and San Diego 3 St. Louis 0.

After two washouts, the Saint John Alpines will be in Fredericton tonight for the first game of their best of 7 New Brunswick Senior League semifinal. The second game is scheduled for Memorial Field tomorrow night at 7:30.

The Saint John Sea Dogs will be naming their new head coach this morning who will replace Danny Flynn.
