Future Of Energy Sector A Concern To Atlantic Canada Chamber Of Commerce Members

The new CEO of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce says the future of the energy sector is an issue of concern to their members.

Sheri Somerville says there are opportunities in renewable energy, but fossil fuels aren’t going anywhere immediately.

“Businesses need energy, we need a cost effective supply, and reliable supply of energy,” says Somerville. “There’s major projects there, like Energy East, and there’s major conversations that can still be had in that regard.”

Somerville says some of their members are also looking at getting into, or expanding their role in the renewable energy sector.

“We do need fossil fuels to carry us over, you know natural gas comes to mind as a transition fuel, and that conversation has been had in the province for sure,” says Somerville. “And there’s much opportunity in the renewable sector.”

Somerville adds there’s a great sense of pride among businesses in Atlantic Canada, and she believes it’s time to let the world know about the opportunities and successes here.
