Don’t be surprised to see smoke near Base Gagetown over the next few weeks.
The base’s annual spring grass burning program is scheduled to begin on Monday and run until May 20th.
Officials say it’s necessary to reduce the build-up of dead grass throughout the training area.
It also diminishes the likelihood of fires occurring later in the season when the risk is much higher.
Burning will take place during normal working hours on days with suitable weather conditions, and some weekend burning may be needed.
