Irving Oil releasing a bit more information about what was released at the refinery on Father’s Day.
In a statement, the company says a unit restart at the refinery resulted in the release of gasoil, a product slightly heavier than diesel.
It created what the company calls ‘offsite impacts’ for some of their close neighbours.
Social media was abuzz Sunday morning with people discussing the strange odour, complaining sore throats and tightness and seeing a white cloud moving across the harbour.
Irving Oil says its working with the Department of Environment and any residents who were impacted to facilitate clean-up as needed.
They have apologized again for the inconvenience and encourage their neighbours to reach out to them at 506-202-3000 with any questions or concerns related to this incident.
