No medal for Canada in the 3000 Metre Steeplechase, but still a lot of proud Monctonians.
They were tuned in this morning to watch 24 year old Genevieve Lalonde, in the finals at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
She placed 16th, but the Technical Director at Athletics New Brunswick Gabriel Leblanc says they were not disappointed, “To be 16th in the world at the Olympic games, when you were ranked 34th, I think it is extremely incredible to break the Canadian record in the heat on Saturday. It was a great race.”
Genevieve Lalonde finishes 16th with a time of 9:41.88! What an amazing end to her first Olympic Games! #Rio2016

Leblanc says Lalonde should be very proud, being that it was her first time at the Olympic games, and she is the first Canadian to ever compete in the 3000 metre Steeplechase.
