A visit on a cruise ship and a napkin figure prominently in the story of the CGS, Computer Generated Solutions, located on Broadview Avenue in Saint John.
The company is based in New York City and has 7500 employees around the globe.

30 years ago, Phil Friedman, owner of the company, visited the Port city on a cruise ship and loved it.
He returned in 2001 to visit a partner firm, a company run by Doug Stephen which had 15 employees at the time.
“I invited Doug for dinner and during the dinner, we negotiated and I wrote up a contract on a napkin and I bought the company. This is how CGS Canada got started.” Friedman says.
CGS plans to add 100 new jobs to its Saint John operation over the next four years thanks in part to the payroll rebates from Opportunities New Brunswick.
Friedman called the payroll rebates a major factor in their decision to bring the jobs to their Saint John office versus bringing the jobs to India or Romania.
