Grade Five Student Breaks Math World Record

When it comes to Math, 10-year-old Shanyu Akkaladevi is a good student to have around.

He is in Grade 5 and he recently set a world record as the youngest person to calculate the square root for 20 digit irrational numbers.

Shanyu was well awarded for his task that took him two months to complete, “I got a trophy and a certificate and a medal, a badge and a sticker.”

His dad submitted a video of Shanyu completing the task to Exclusive World Records.

His classmates at Queen Elizabeth School in Moncton had lots of questions for Shanyu, when he brought his awards to school this week, “How I did it, how long did it take, when did it start. But they didn’t ask me to teach them.”

Shanyu says everyone, his family, friends and teachers all were very supportive, “They were so happy and proud.”

Math isn’t his only passion, Shanyu has already considered what he would like to do for the future, “I like to design, and I want to be an Architect.”

Shanyu’s family moved to Canada from India in 2020.
