How Can The Central Peninsula Become A Better Place To Live?

If you live in the Uptown, South End, and Waterloo Village areas and have any ideas on how to make the Central Peninsula a better place to live in, you’re encouraged to attend a summit being held at St. John the Baptist King Edward School.

The summit runs until Saturday, and it’s all part of the Central Peninsula Neighbourhood Action Plan.

Councillor Gerry Lowe is a member of the Neighbourhood Action Committee and would like to see something done to the former sugar refinery site.

He says if housing can’t be built there and we don’t have any commercial we should grass it over and add walking trails.

Lowe says it would be a perfect area to watch the cruise ships.

Mayor Don Darling says they do have some short-term goals in mind, which includes cleaning up the city, the image, and putting the lots up for sale on the corner of Canterbury and Princess and Canterbury and Grannan.

Darling says the goal of the summit is to get as much input from the community as possible.

Other areas the plan could look at included the possibility of a grocery store in the south end, managing run down and boarded up buildings, adding more green space, and improving parking and walking trails for residents.

If you’re unable to make the summit, you can submit your ideas online: bit.ly/2tS1P8U

Darling says they’ve already received over 1000 comments online.
