Interim Solution For Sand Cove Road

The city has come up with an interim solution to the slope failure along a portion of Sand Cove Road on the way to the Irving Nature Park but it will cost over 158 thousand dollars.

Common Council being asked to approve the installation of relief wells to strengthen the weak soils layer. There are fears the road may wash away and those fears are justified according to John Laventure who lives along Sand Cove Road where the road is giving way.

Common Council being told another report on a longer term more expensive solution to the problem is expected in the coming weeks.

A permanent solution includes re-routing the roadway away from the area of slippage and the construction of a breakwater to prevent the slope failure and subsequent erosion. Either of these solutions are likely to come at a very high cost.
