J.D. Irving Celebrates Planting Of One Billion Trees

It has been more than 60 years since J.D. Irving, Ltd. planted its first tree, and now the company has reached a major milestone.

James K. Irving was joined by sons Jim and Robert last week to plant the company’s one billionth tree.

JDI’s tree planting program started in 1957, when 3,000 trees were planted in the community of Black Brook, N.B., near Blackville.

The original goal was to produce one million trees, but 11 years later, the program had grown to over four million seedlings planted.

The company now plants over 20 million trees every year.
