Jobless Rate Hits Lowest Point In 40 Years

Stats Canada says the unemployment rate in December hit the lowest it has been since January 1976.

The national jobless rate decreased 0.2 percent going to 5.7 percent last month.

The country added a total of 79,000 jobs with the majority of them, 55,000 being part-time.

The provincial rate also decreased dramatically going from 8.3 percent in November to 7.8 percent in December.

However Stats Canada says that 1.5 percent decrease was mostly due to less people in the labour force.
