A very challenging fire in Moncton overnight, left three vacant structures destroyed..It was reported just after 11pm last night, and flames could be seen by residents living kilometres away.
Platoon Chief for Moncton Fire Brian Gaudet tells us what they found on Park Street, “What we viewed when we arrived was, one building completely engulfed. It was basically just a ball of fire.”
He says because of the nature of the fire, they couldn’t send anyone inside, and that made it even more challenging to fight, “All of our water streams were directed at the fire from the exterior. We didn’t do any interior firefighting. Interior firefighting is where we have our most success, but in this case, the conditions, and the way they presented themselves, we could only be defensive, completely defensive.”

Up to nineteen firefighters helped to battle the blaze. They were on scene for over five hours.
Gaudet says the one building is a complete loss, and the other two are extensively damaged with their roofs burned off.
He adds that the three buildings were on the abandoned buildings list and were not officially occupied.
A Fire Investigator will be on the scene today, trying to determine a cause.
