Late Night Fires Keep First Responders Busy In Bitter Temps

Two fires late last night keeping city fire crews busy uptown and on the west side.

The first call came in about 1045pm at the Sydney Arms six-floor apartment complex on Sydney Street where a plastic table caught fire in a unit on the third floor.

On such a cold night, the tenants from the building were allowed to stay warm in the lobby area while firefighters made sure the air quality was safe.

Less than an hour later, fire crews responded to another fire on City Line where a chair that was on fire was put outside and subsequently caused the deck of the building to catch fire. One woman living in the building stayed warm in her car and was allowed back in once the fire was put out.

No one was hurt in either incident.
