Less Will Be Better In City Recreation

The city wants less responsibility in maintaining an oversupply of recreation facilities around town as Common Councillors get a presentation tonight from Play SJ.

The recommendations include a high level committee be established to agree on target dates for closing those arenas that have reached the end of their life cycles to be replaced by a multi-use recreation facility at Exhibition Park with twin ice surfaces.

Councillors will also be told the city should be spending recreation dollars for improvements to Rockwood Park, Rainbow Park, Market Place West and Dominion Park.

One Change in the north end plans to install and maintain what’s the report describes as a high quality play park this year next to the Nick Nicolle Community Centre.
