The Lily Lake Pavilion receiving a one time cash infusion from the city worth $100,000 dollars.
Chair Jim Stanley originally made a request for the city to contribute, on an ongoing basis, $10,000 per month to support the operations of the Pavilion.
Councillor David Merrithew voted against giving the Pavilion the grant.
Merrithew says if the Pavilion has to close or another operator has to be found, that’s what should be done.
Councillor Donna Reardon attributes the downturn in their business to when the Port of Saint John got into the catering and event planning business.
The one-time operating grant will offset losses occurred in Community Programming between 2011 and 2015.
The money will allow the Pavilion to continue to operate and the city will reduce its capital commitment by $100,000 so the overall financial commitment is cash neutral.
