Proposed legislation to making life safer for cyclists, called Ellen’s Law, has the support of Mayor Don Darling. He’ll have more to say about it Monday night at Common Council.
Ellen’s Law, named after the late international cyclist Ellen Watters of Sussex, would stipulate drivers stay at least a metre away from cyclists.
Holly McKay, Vice-President of Saint John Cycling, says cyclists have a responsibility as well as drivers to know the rules of the road.
She argues the roads are wide enough in most cases for bike lanes.
