A Canadian soldier with New Brunswick ties has been killed by friendly fire in Iraq.
Sergeant Andrew Joseph Doiron was killed – by mistake – on Friday afternoon by Iraqi Kurdish forces.
Doiron was based at Garrison Petawawa, Ont. but is originally from Moncton.
Three other soldiers were injured during the same exchange – they are expected to make a full recovery.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper offered condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Sergeant Doiron.
He also wished the three injured soldiers a speedy recovery.
It’s the first Canadian solder killed during the Iraq mission.
