The Major League Baseball season getting underway……The Blue Jays downed Tampa Bay 5-3 with Marcus Stroman allowing three runs and six hits over eight plus innings. The World Champion Kansas City Royals edged the New York Mets 4-3 and Pittsburgh downed St. Louis 4-1.
The Saint John Vito’s have won another major title, capturing the Atlantic Major Midget Hockey championship in Newfoundland on a goal by Ben Reid 52 seconds into overtime on a breakaway. The Vito’s forced overtime by tying the game with 10 seconds left in regulation time on a goal by Alex Hambly. The Vito’s next challenge is the Telus Cup which gets underway later this month at the Q-Plex.
In the NHL, Patrick Kane scored three goals in Chicago’s 6-4 win over Boston…..The Bruins are one point out of the final playoff spot in the East…..Philadelphia failed to take advantage of the Bruin loss as the Flyers lose to Pittsburgh, 6-2…..It was St. Louis over Colorado 5-1……Anaheim defeated Dallas 3-1 and Winnipeg beat Minnesota 5-1.
March Madness ends tonight when North Carolina takes on Villanova for the NCAA men’s basketball championship.
