Monday Morning Sports For February 6th

It’s being called the greatest comeback ever as the New England Patriots win their fifth Super Bowl in overtime, 34-28 over Atlanta. The Pats were trailing 28-3 midway through the third quarter when they began their comeback. New England tied the game with 57 seconds left on a one yard run by James White and two point conversion. White scored the winning touchdown on a two yard run in overtime in the culmination of a 75 yard drive. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named the game’s Most Valuable Player throwing for 466 yards and two touchdowns.

In the NHL, Edmonton got by Montreal in a shootout 1-0…..Washington shut out Los Angeles 5-0 and the New York Rangers downed Calgary 4-3, scoring 3 goals in the third period.

In the National Basketball League, the Saint John Riptide beat Halifax 109-103. Anthony Anderson was named player of the game with 26 points, seven rebounds and 9 of 10 free throws. Gabe Freeman scored 24 points with 15 rebounds while Haakim Johnson scored 14 points.

In the NBA, the Toronto Raptors beat Brooklyn 103-95. Amber Iman, a member of the national touring cast of the Broadway hit “Hamilton,” couldn’t remember the lyrics to O Canada and improvised. In other play, it was Boston 107 Los Angeles 102 and Oklahoma City 105 Portland 99.
