In the NFL playoffs, a classic in Dallas with Malcolm Crosby becoming the first kicker to make two field goals 50 yards or longer in the final two minutes of a postseason game to give Green Bay a 34-31 win over the Cowboys. Dallas had tied the game with 58 seconds left.
Pittsburgh held off Kansas City 18-16 as Chris Boswell kicked 6 field goals. Pittsburgh will face New England next weekend for the AFC championship with Green Bay takes on Atlanta for the NFC title.
Giovanni Fiore scored a three goals in the second period to help the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defeat the Saint John Sea Dogs 7-6. Mathieu Joseph had a goal and two assists for Saint John while Matthew Highmore and Julien Gauthier each added a goal and an assist. Joe Veleno, Alexandre Bernier and Samuel Dove-McFalls also scored.
In the NHL, it was Minnesota 3 Chicago 2 to take over first in the Western Conference…..Washington won its 9th in a row, 5-0 over Philadelphia…..New Jersey 2 Vancouver 1 in overtime and St. Louis 2 Anaheim 1 in overtime.
In the National Basketball League, despite 39 points by Anthony Anderson, the Island Storm took the Saint John Riptide 130-121. Forward Gabe Freeman of the Riptide has been named Atlantic Division Player of the Week.
St. Malachy’s won the Varsity Girls Basketball title at the Rothesay-Netherwood Top of the Hill Tournament.
