More Smokers Need To Kick The Habit

It’s National Non-Smoking Week.

Coordinator for the New Brunswick Anti-Tobacco Commission Christy Bigney says significant gains were made last year in the fight against tobacco when the government announced amendments to the Smoke-free Places Act, “Having these bans in place are really effective to smokers who are trying to reduce their smoking or quit entirely. They are also great for those who are trying to maintain a smokefree lifestyle.”

Bigney notes, “There’s always more work to be done, particularly in New Brunswick where smoking rates are the highest, along with Newfoundland. The highest smoking rates are among young adults, between 20 and 34 years old.”
